#5: The Honeymoon Effect.
Every January, I get swamped by new prospective training clients, begging me to find time to fit them into my packed training schedule. Yup - New Years’ Resolutions.
And by March, 90% of them are gone.
I understand. You’re excited at the beginning, highly motivated to do “whatever’s necessary” to achieve your goal of creating a new desirable bodyshape.
But instead of overdoing it at the beginning, then “falling off the wagon” when the “honeymoon” is over - why not use that initial burst of enthusiasm to your advantage?
1) Establish good habits early on. Rather than rushing to do everything you can at the beginning, concentrate instead on making significant changes in your lifestyle (eating habits, exercise habits, etc.), that will easily fit into your schedule and thus, be easy to maintain for the long haul.
2) Then be Patient. It probably took years (decades?) for you to get in this bad of a shape. Why expect to reverse this, in a matter of weeks? If you can undo 10 years of bad habits, with merely ONE year of concentrated effort - that’s a damn good deal, isn’t it!
#4: Separating Diet & Exercise.
People constantly ask me which is more important: Diet or Exercise. My answer is always the same: Both.
It is very rare that I have witnessed someone make truly significant progress, only following a nutrition plan, or only following a workout regimen. (And I mean following an excellent nutrition plan/workout regimen!)
The truth is, it’s the combination of diet AND exercise, that can virtually guarantee results for you.
#3: Avoiding Resistance Training.
Long ago, the medical profession decided that Cardio was the best way to lose weight, and shape your body. Years later, science confirmed that they were wrong - and Personal Trainers were right!
We’ve been saying all along, that Resistance Training is superior to Cardio. That is, exercises that involve lifting against resistance (free weights, machines, bodyweight, etc.) is a better way to shape your body AND lose weight; than cardiovascular-type exercises (jogging, treadmills, stationary bicycles, etc.). Major studies worldwide in recent years, have now confirmed this.
#2: Building Muscle First, Then Trying To Lose The Fat.
Have you ever noticed how many “big” guys in the gym, aren’t just big muscularly - they’re Big & Fat! Why would you want to follow the plan they use?
If you just want to get “big” and don’t care about your health or how you look, then fine: Eat a ton of fast food - you’ll be “big” in no time!
But if you want to have a great “bod”, (one that all the girls can’t help but “worship”), then you need concentrate on getting your bodyfat percentage down, first.
Note: I’m not saying you can’t build muscle at the same time - you can. But your TOP priority, must be to lose the fat!
#1: Thinking That Losing The Last 10 Pounds, Is The Same.
“Stubborn Fat.” You know what I’m talking about. That last bit of fat that just refuses to come off your abs (men), or refuses to come off your thighs & butt (women).
The bottom line: Turning a “healthy, average” body, into a “magazine model” body; is a LOT different than turning a fat body, into a “healthy, average” body.
Once you reach “fit & healthy”, your body will actually FIGHT HARD to prevent you from going any further. To get the kind of body that other people would “die for”, takes advanced techniques and yes, I have to admit, “secret” strategies.
These are the kinds of secrets known only by those professionals, who’s careers depend upon them looking better than 99% of the population. Supermodels, Hollywood Hunks, Natural Bodybuilders.
They know about a methodology for losing fat that’s so effective, it puts them in complete control of their body composition. And if they ever “slip” and fall off the wagon - no problem! They know how to get back into shape - fast!!
